I don't remember a lot of that, though I've also not played it through more than once, save early parts. That said, I'm not sure where BG3 is TPKing you in BG3 from dialogue or wandering off. Yeah, but a TPK in a tabletop session is very different than in a game because of saving and loading. The beef I have with BG3 is that I want to play BG3, not a Larian game set in the forgotten reals, but I am sure I will still enjoy the game. Of course you just load the last save and try again in a game. I would refuse to ever again play with a GM that treated the party this way. Larian, on the other hand, apparently thinks it is hilarious to TPK based on poor dialogue choice or TPK without getting a turn if you wander a little off the path in the questline. Only poor GM's casually TPK the party and Baldur's Gate followed this in that usually you did something especially dumb to get attacked by an enemy that killed your whole party before you even got a chance to act. I love DOS 2 and the Baldur's Gate games but I feel you are mis-characterizing the criticism (at least what i have read)īaldur's Gate was about recreating the tabletop experience as close as possible. It only has the first act? well i guess i should get this game. Oh ♥♥♥♥, i didnt even notice the EA part. I bought it and participated in the EA because I'm a huge fan and wanted to support Larian, and it was quite a bit of fun to fiddle around with DnD rules using a modern engine, but it's not a complete gaming experience yet. Wouldn't be fair to compare it to a fully-released and patched game like DOS2.īut I mean, if you're going to buy and play a game, buy this one, because it's an actual game. Originally posted by Yojo0o:Baldur's Gate 3 is in early access. I don't think any of that is fair criticism, as BG1-2 came out twenty years ago, and nothing released today is ever going to recapture the same type of enjoyment we got playing those games back in the day.īut I mean, if you're going to buy and play a game, buy this one, because it's an actual game. Folks who liked the first games don't trust the new game, or don't think it's "worthy" of using that title, or wanted a game that mechanically matched the originals. BG1-2 were DnD 2e and Real-Time-with-Pause, while BG3 is DnD 5e and turn-based. Wouldn't be fair to compare it to a fully-released and patched game like DOS2.Īs a mega-fan of the Baldur's Gate franchise for the past two decades, I will confidently communicate the opinion that most of the negative reception BG3 has received so far is from nostalgia-blinded salt-lords.
